Bruce Goldberg, LMSW, ACSW, CAADC, SAP
President and co-owner of River’s Bend PC, Bruce treats adults facing substance use and mental health challenges through individual, family, and group sessions. He also provides intervention planning, consulting, and is a certified SAP and HPRP provider.
Carl & Katarena Maddox
Carl: 43 years in addiction. Now clean since August 2023. Speaks with purpose to break generational cycles.
Katarena: 24 years old. Formerly incarcerated. Today, a voice for young women in recovery with a message of hope.
Mary Whiteford
Former Michigan State Representative. Led mental health reforms and launched the Michigan Crisis Line (988). Passionate advocate and volunteer for foster children and recovery services.
Tracey Sahouri
Founded ZQS RUN after the tragic loss of her son, Zach. Advocate, educator, and nonprofit leader supporting recovery and overdose prevention efforts across Michigan.
Tribal Elder Joseph Sowmick
Joseph Sowmick is a Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Elder and Public Relations Manager for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. A Beaver Clan member with the Spirit Name Chi Mic Ki Nic (Big Turtle), Joseph brings 30+ years of service rooted in culture, wellness, and communication. He shares teachings of the Medicine Wheel, Seven Grandfathers, and faith-based recovery. Joseph lives in Mt. Pleasant with his wife of 39 years, Susan.
Brian Stevens
After two decades performing as a vocalist on luxury cruise liners, Brian Stevens came to Michigan to pursue his education—and stayed for love. Now proudly calling Michigan home, Brian brings warmth, talent, and heart to every stage he graces.
Honorable Clinton Canady III
Judge Clinton Canady III holds both his BBA and JD from the University of Michigan. After practicing law for 37 years—including co-founding Dunnings & Canady and later launching Canady Law Offices—he was elected to the Ingham County Circuit Court in 2010.
A longtime advocate for justice and community, Judge Canady co-founded the Davis Dunnings Bar Association and has served with the State Bar of Michigan, National Bar Association, Lansing BWL, and many civic organizations, including Kappa Alpha Psi and Sigma Pi Phi.
He and his wife, Rita, are proud parents of Tara, an Administrative Law Judge in California, and Clinton IV, with the SEC in Washington, DC.
Chris Nixon, LMSW, CAADC
Director of Addiction Medicine at Henry Ford Maplegrove Center, Chris Nixon leads programs supporting recovery from substance use and gambling disorders. He’s a recognized voice on emerging challenges like online betting addiction and the "sober curious" movement. With a deep commitment to patient-centered care, Chris brings both clinical expertise and compassionate leadership to the UFAM Rally 2025.
Joelle Prout & Rachel Permoda
Finding Fellowship as Young People in Recovery
JoElle and Rachel met in recovery—and found the power of community along the way. Being young in recovery brings its own set of challenges, from rebuilding your social circle to discovering new ways to enjoy life.
Through fellowship, they’ve found connection, support, and belonging. At UFAM Rally 2025, they’ll share what it means to grow in recovery while walking alongside peers who truly understand the journey.
Jimmy Angyal
Jimmy Angyal is a proud UAW member, Certified Labor Assistance Professional (LAP-C), and Certified National Addiction Counselor (CNCA1). He’s dedicated his career to supporting individuals and families dealing with substance use, gambling addiction, mental health challenges, domestic violence, and anger issues—believing strongly in the power of education and advocacy to foster recovery.
As President of the Detroit Chapter of Labor Assistance Professionals, Jimmy also partners with Clinton Counseling to bring recovery programming to Macomb County Correctional Facility. With over 20 years of experience, Jimmy continues to be a tireless advocate for hope, healing, and change within both the workforce and the wider community.
Tara Moreno-Wallen
Tara Moreno-Wallen is the founder of Serenity House of Flint and a 16-year person in recovery. With a background in journalism and a master’s in Composition and Rhetoric, she blends lived experience with communication and advocacy.
A Reiki Master, Acudetox Specialist, and recovery coach, Tara developed Recovery Reiki® and creates healing spaces at major conferences. She also leads impactful events like Genesee County’s Walk and Rally, empowering communities through art, music, and holistic recovery.
